1. Overview
Noteology (“the App”) is a music education app that helps users learn to identify and play musical notes. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable data protection laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
2. Information We Collect
a. Non-Personal Information
We may automatically collect limited non-personal data, such as:
- Device model and operating system
- Usage patterns
- Crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics)
This helps us improve performance and fix bugs.
b. Microphone Access
Noteology uses your device’s microphone only to detect musical pitch in real time.
✅ We do not record, store, or transmit audio.
c. User Communications (Including Children)
If a user — including a child under 13 — contacts us via email for support, we may receive:
- The sender’s email address
- The contents of their message
We only use this information to respond to their inquiry and do not share it with third parties or use it for marketing.
d. Logon details
Users can login with Google or Apple or via their email address. We store this identification so that a user's progress through Noteology carries over onto different devices.
After login, we ask users if we might contact them concerning new features or offers etc. If the user opts in, we may contact them from time to time but we will never sell this data to third-parties.
d. Role
We ask users if they are a 'Teacher', "Home Educator", "Student' or 'Parent'. This data is used to give the user a more personalized experience.
3. Permissions Used
- Microphone: To detect played notes on the piano.
- Network access: For sending crash reports and enabling support.
- Bluetooth: To detect notes through a MIDI keyboard
4. Third-Party Services
We use:
- Firebase Crashlytics for crash diagnostics and Analytics to monitor generic use of the app.
See their policy: Firebase Privacy Policy
We do not serve ads.
5. Children’s Privacy
Noteology is designed for general audiences, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children other than their login email unless they choose to contact us.
If a child contacts us:
- We use their information only to respond.
- We do not disclose any personal information to third parties.
6. Data Retention
We store:
- Login details such as email
- User role (such as 'Teacher')
- User progress data (games completed and average time per game etc.)
In the Account page on the app, users can choose to have all their data permanently deleted.
7. Your Privacy Choices
